MANUU Mass Communication & Journalism Department Completes Insightful Media Education Tour of Delhi — Visits IIMC, Major Newsrooms, Cultural Landmarks and Parliament

Hydrabad/ New Delhi  — A group of students and faculty from the Department of Mass Communication & Journalism, Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU), Hyderabad, wrapped up a rich and comprehensive educational tour of New Delhi this week. Led by the Head of Department and Dean, Mohammad Fariyad, the delegation visited premier media institutions, attended hands-on workshops on photo and videography, explored national cultural sites and experienced first-hand the workings of India’s parliamentary institutions.

A delegation of students and faculty
The delegation included HOD/Dean Mohammad Fariyad, Dr. Meraj Ahmed, Dr. Danish Khan, RJ Nazakit, Sheezu Shahzan Khan, Nusrat Parveen, Tahiyat kulsum and several research scholars and students from the MCJ department.
The university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Syed Ainul Hasan, extended his blessings and guidance prior to the tour and faculty members provided continuous mentoring throughout the visit.

Institution visit and professional interactions
The MANUU team visited the Southern Regional Campus of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) where they met Registrar Mr. L. Madhu Nag and had a detailed, interactive session with Prof. (Dr.) Pramod Kumar (Head, Outreach Activities) and Dr. Rakesh Upadhyay (Course Director — Urdu & Hindi Journalism). The visit included a tour of key campus facilities such as the library and the campus radio (Apna Radio), giving students a practical view into academic training and campus media infrastructure.

Under HOD Mohammad Fariyad’s leadership, the delegation also visited multiple newsrooms and media houses across Delhi and Noida, including:

Bharat express (Noida) — inside tour of the newsroom and live TV operations; students observed production workflows and the dynamics of live programming.

ABP News Network (Noida) — exposure to television news operations and editorial decision-making.

Zee Media Group— interaction with alumni and seasoned professionals; a memorable reunion with RJ Aamir Ahsan, now a prime-time anchor, whose career path served as an inspirational example for students.

Dainik Jagran — tour of editorial operations and large-scale printing presses; conversation with senior journalists and insight into newspaper production and distribution, including mention of the group’s Urdu edition (Inquilab Urdu).

IGNCA (Ministry of Culture) and other cultural/media stops that broadened students’ perspectives on media’s relationship with culture and public institutions.

The team enjoyed a interaction Duemonstrating how alumni networks connect classroom learning with professional practice.

Practical workshop: Panasonic Centre, Connaught Place
As part of the tour’s skill-building focus, students attended a hands-on workshop on photo and videography at the Panasonic Centre, Connaught Place. The workshop covered camera handling, lighting techniques, and visual storytelling, providing practical training that complemented classroom theory and strengthened students’ technical abilities in media production.

Parliament visit— seeing democracy in action
The tour offered a unique civics and media learning experience with guided visits to both the Old and New Parliament buildings, including the Central Hall — the historic site where India’s Constitution was drafted by the Constituent Assembly and the Drafting Committee. Standing in the Central Hall and visiting both Rajya Sabha (Upper House) and Lok Sabha (Lower House) chambers gave students a profound appreciation for the structures and procedures of Indian democracy and the role of the press in covering parliamentary affairs.
Cultural visits — contextualising history and public memory
Complementing the media-focused itinerary, the group visited several of Delhi’s iconic heritage sites. Students explored Qutb Minar, an architectural jewel of medieval India, experiencing history, art and the layers of cultural memory that inform public storytelling.

They also visited India Gate, a national war memorial and symbol of sacrifice — a moment several participants described as both reflective and inspiring.

Reflections from the tour

Participants described the tour as eye-opening: newsroom tours revealed the hectic, collaborative nature of contemporary media production; the Panasonic Centre workshop gave confidence to students in camera and lighting skills; and the Parliament and heritage visits deepened their understanding of how media, democracy, and cultural history intersect.

HOD Mohammad Fariyad reflected on the trip’s value as a bridge between academic learning and professional practice, praising the students’ curiosity and discipline. Faculty members reiterated the importance of hands-on exposure and alumni engagement in shaping career pathways for current students.

Student Tribute to a True Mentor

As students, we feel truly blessed to have Prof. Dr. Mohammed Faryad as our mentor and guide. Throughout the Noida–Delhi educational tour, we witnessed not just a Head of Department, but a guardian committed to the safety, dignity, and growth of every student. Despite his senior academic position, he chose to travel with us in the same sleeper coach — counting each one of us, checking every bag before departure, and standing selflessly for our comfort before his own. He never allowed fatigue or inconvenience to reflect in his conduct, always interacting with kindness, patience, and reassurance.

To us, Prof. Faryad Sir is not just an academic leader — he is a living example of humility, discipline, responsibility, and humanity. His silent sacrifices and constant care have earned immense respect from every student who accompanied him on this journey. We proudly say that his presence turned this educational tour into a life-learning experience.
